Expedition Tobolsk. Day 4.
Did you know that Tobolsk is the city of angels? And we saw every single one of them!
Four days. One city that revealed itself to us in a completely unique way.
Some will say: Tobolsk is the Kremlin, Mendeleev, Abalak, SIBUR. That’s all true. But our team saw another Tobolsk — the one where angels hide in arches and on squares. Mini-sculptures. Each with its own character, name, and mood. We searched for them, found them, photographed them. And with each new encounter, the city became closer and more familiar.
There’s also a legend: Divine Grace has descended upon Tobolsk, and here are born “people kissed by God.” After spending four days here, you start to believe it. Because the city breathes history, culture, and a special kind of silence in which you can hear what truly matters.
What this expedition gave the participants:
🌿 Experience of independence — many traveled away from their parents for the first time, making decisions together as a team.
📖 Living history — not from a textbook paragraph, but from museums, streets, tour guides’ stories, and their own diaries.
🔬 Understanding that science is born from childhood curiosity — the story of Mendeleev will now never be forgotten.
🤝 The ability to be together — to negotiate, support, listen, and hear one another.
🧭 The desire to keep exploring — their own country, its cities, its people. Because Siberia is not just a dot on the map.
The expedition was called “Growing with Siberia.” And this reflects the main current trend in education: not chasing distant countries while forgetting your own, but studying your native history. Knowing the land you stand on. Understanding who we are and where we come from.
Because true love for one’s homeland begins with wonder. With an angel hidden on a pediment. With the Irtysh River, which connects Russia and China. With a pine tree planted by a child from besieged Leningrad. With science born at a glassblowing factory in a small village.
Tobolsk, thank you. We will definitely come back. The next expedition is on the horizon.
Stay tuned for news.
📸 Photos and videos of Tobolsk’s angels are in this post. And in the video, Sasha will tell you about each one in a way that will make you want to go and see them with your own eyes.
