Turkey — Expectations and Reality of the Expedition Participants
Turkey is being opened up by a great team: Maxim, Ivan, Mikhail, Denis, Sofa, Katya, Dasha. The guys themselves wrote about how they prepared for the trip, getting to know the team, and the adventures of the first day!
Misha is open and sociable — he actively drew Denis and Dasha into the game, even though they first refused, but then got carried away! Denis is our computer genius. He figured out the Wi-Fi code, and we were able to send messages home so our parents wouldn’t worry. Dasha is our little charm, whom everyone looks after. And Katya, it turns out, dances, is a volleyball master, knows card games, and I think the list will go on. The diary was written by everyone together. I wonder if the parents can guess who wrote which part?
BEFORE:
#1 “Our adventure began in Surgut. When I came to the first meeting and saw everyone and their parents, I thought we would hardly become friends. I was tense and didn’t want to say anything. Fortunately, the parents talked about the goals of the trip. The other kids seemed so cool to me that my self-esteem dropped through the floor. The guy sitting next to me started talking to me, and it felt strange. At the next meeting, Elena (Aglyametdinovna) handed out study materials where we had to write something. ‘Why!’ I thought. ‘I just want to relax and get a tan!'”
#2 “I just wanted to get out of the city, away from school and exams. It didn’t matter with whom. I ended up here almost by accident and, of course, didn’t think I’d become friends with anyone. And besides, I don’t know English (at all), while everyone else does! I assumed I’d be treated condescendingly because of that, if not negatively.”
#3 “I also wanted to take my first independent trip without my parents. To relax, well, and to test myself. My parents scared me with a long flight with two layovers!”
AFTER the first day:
#1 “Elena prepared study materials, and we started getting to know each other through exercises, giving each other advice. Max confidently told me that you have to speak, even if you’re scared!”
#2 “It’s good that the flight was like this: Surgut — St. Petersburg, 2-hour layover; St. Petersburg — Sochi, 6-hour layover; Sochi — Antalya. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have been able to get to know each other so well and grow so close. We slept on the plane, although Ivan urged us not to waste time sleeping on the last flight — there was so much interesting stuff to discuss and do!
During the waiting times and flights, we discussed musical preferences, listened to each other’s favorite music, and came to the conclusion that music says a lot about a person! At the airport, we were all sent to eat together, and that turned out to be bonding too! The ‘younger’ and ‘older’ ones had common preferences. Someone even ate three times! Sofia talked to everyone and tried to involve everyone in the conversation. Then we had an English lesson about Surgut, and I realized that English isn’t boring, and that I, too, can participate in the conversation — even though, unlike the other kids, I don’t study at Lingva. While we were studying, people in the waiting area turned to look at us with interest, and when we started playing ‘Mafia,’ one lady even joined us. It turned out she (her name is Valentina) was the best mafioso! Where do you think Valentina is from? Surgut! And when she found out we were from Surgut too, from Lingva, she smiled and was surprised she hadn’t guessed right away.”
#3 “No, it’s not the same who you travel with! What matters is who’s around you! Our team helped each other carry bags, shared treats, and included each other in conversations! And Elena treats us not like children, but like adults. Not all teachers are like that. Thank you, parents, for sending me to TURKEY, to CAMP! Camp — that’s for the second day’s diary. Ivan will write that one. And we’ll share our thoughts with him!”
Philosophical Page of the Second Day in Turkey
The morning began with a shower. I wondered how many days I would be discovering “my” Turkey?! This is only the first day. I miss home, family, and friends. I think with time, this will fade to the background, at least. Although, if you think with that logic, you’d spend your whole life waiting!
But then the sea happened during the day and swept away my melancholy in an instant! Antalya is located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, which makes the climate mild and attracts a huge number of tourists. The city itself has a little over a million residents, while the record number of vacationers here reached as many as 12.5 million people. That’s like several Surguts put together!
We swam in the sea as much as we wanted, of course, under the supervision of our counselors and mentors. Sofa said that in the camps where she stayed before, children would hold hands, walk into the sea, dip in, and come out. Guys, come join us! After walking around the area and listening to the cicadas, we decided to bring a ball tomorrow, and with that thought, we headed off to lunch.
After lunch, we took an English test. It seemed “very difficult” to me, so we finished in an hour instead of the allotted 1.5 hours, and we had time to look around a bit more.
The subsequent events, scheduled literally minute by minute, filled the rest of the day so completely that in the evening, I quickly fell asleep without having time to dwell on thoughts of the transience of existence or homesickness.

Day 3 — Katya Borisova.
The second day at camp was very eventful. The morning started with exercises, and after breakfast, we went to the sea, where we took a cool group photo with a Polaroid camera. After returning, we played Uno, and then went to English class. The lesson was a bit stressful for me, but I think over time it will get more comfortable.
After that, we faced a small problem — we had to perform at the Minute of Fame show. Rehearsing was tough because we only had one day, but to my surprise, we performed quite well, and most importantly, the kids were happy! Finally, we played Mafia, which always lifts my mood!
Katya Borisova
The day went great, and I’m really happy with this vacation!
“With each passing day, I become more and more convinced that I don’t regret this trip one bit!”
Day Four. July 9 — Our third day at camp.
The morning started with an early wake-up and getting ready for an excursion (which is why we had breakfast earlier and woke up a bit earlier than usual). After a hearty breakfast, our group headed by bus to the yacht.
At the port, I noticed many, many different yachts — each beautiful in its own way. I enjoy excursions with boat rides because the water calms you down and gives you a feeling of peace.
As it turned out, there were not only camp groups on the yacht but also other vacationers from Kemer and Antalya. I should note that there were people of different nationalities: Turks, Russians, English, Azerbaijanis, Uzbeks, Kazakhs, Syrians, Iranians…
Time on the excursion flew by unnoticed — we chatted, played new games, took photos, and tried to squeeze into a noisy foam disco. But I’m especially grateful to Max and Ivan for sharing their musical preferences with me.
Upon returning to camp, we had free time before dinner, and we decided to spend it at the pool. Misha and Denis were tired, so they stayed in the room, while the rest of us went swimming. It was more fun than ever! I honestly didn’t think swimming in a pool could be so exciting.
The rest of the day passed just as quickly but more calmly. We played board games, then held our evening session and listened to each other. I love these sessions because they help us become more open with each other, and that helps us understand one another better. This time, we learned that Maxim has an adult swimming rank, and Denis has been swimming for four years. That’s why they were in the sea without life jackets and even dove off the yacht. In the evening, Dasha shared that when she first saw the waves in the open sea, she was so captivated that she couldn’t tear herself away from the view for a whole hour! Ivan and Elena kept an eye on her. Ivan, by the way, realized he could spend his whole life just looking at the sea and the cliffs while listening to his favorite music.
We also learn to give each other compliments every evening. Sometimes it works out, and sometimes it turns into a joke. But it’s still nice. 😊
And so, another day at camp flew by — quietly but fully — and with each passing day, I become more and more convinced that I don’t regret this trip one bit!
City, Shopping, Sea…
Day Six (fifth day at camp) — Misha Franchuk
This day started very well for me: I woke up very early today, earlier than everyone else, at about 6:36 AM. Then I spent half an hour lying in bed, not wanting to disturb the others.
After that, everyone got up, and we all went to the shower together. Somehow it happened that I brushed my teeth and went downstairs — I was the last one to arrive for exercises, the whole group was already assembled, and we cheerfully (Elena’s version) at a snail’s pace (we didn’t really feel like it) headed to the workout. For breakfast, they offered: boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, cheese and sausage, sausages, milk porridge, tea, fruit drink, water, fruit, pastries; but we ate: cereal with milk, muffins, and a chocolate croissant. 😄 Breakfast was ordinary, but everything was so tasty! 😋
After breakfast, my friends and I went to the sea. I didn’t swim today, just dipped my feet. I didn’t swim because I’m already tired of spending 3 hours at the sea and getting tanned to a crisp. I think I already have a nice, even tan. Ivan, as you know, was a little sick, so he didn’t go swimming either, and Ivan and I just chatted about the food we would buy at the store after lunch. We made a shopping list, so to speak.
After coming out of the sea following a long swim, at Sofa’s suggestion, we played cards. 😊 I usually build a strategy and win, but this time, after three games, I didn’t win a single one. About half an hour of walking along the shore wrapped up the beach part of the day.
By the way, Turkey was celebrating Kurban Bayram — the third day of a nationwide weekend, and today there were families with children on the beach, many locals. We returned just in time for lunch. I’ll keep it brief: I liked everything! Only Elena ate the cabbage soup and vegetable salad (is that even food?!), while we had pasta with a cutlet, a muffin, watermelon, apricots, and apples — a completely different story!
After that, we were all sent to English in groups. The foreign teacher explained how to address people correctly in English, so we studied for an hour and a half 😄 and then went for a snack. The snack was also delicious: buckwheat with chicken and a burger, fruit, tea, and semolina cake. The younger groups went to a show after the snack, but we went to the game room. At first, I thought it would be boring, but I was the first to volunteer for Twister, and it turned out to be fun.
And the girls also had a cool photo shoot! 😍 Yes! Before dinner, we also went to the store. Ivan plotted the route on the navigator, and we found the right place without any problems. Near the store, there was a little kitten — the girls wanted to take it with them, either to the camp or to Surgut — I didn’t understand because I had already rushed OFF TO SHOP!
Returning to the room, we, of course, didn’t accidentally follow Elena’s advice and indulged a little in the delights the local supermarket had to offer, and then we were called to dinner. I won’t go into details, but dinner was also good: nobody ate the healthy food — everyone ate the tasty stuff.
Elena suggested we spend the next hour outdoors, and I suggested playing Uno. In the end, we played for a very long time (an hour) and joked about all sorts of things. Girls from other groups joined us again. Probably because there are many of us, we sit in a circle, chat cheerfully, and don’t swear — or maybe they just had nothing else to do. One was named Sofia, and the other — Bayan. We still had some free time, which we spent in the room.
After that — please note: only we had this — we held our daily summary session, evaluating the day and sharing our feelings. We gave each other compliments — for example, Maxim complimented me for being very calm today. 😊 And now, here I am, thinking about how great I am, lying on the bed writing this diary for today. Thanks for your attention.
We’re waiting for the parents to write back. Today, Sofa was upset that there weren’t many reactions to her day, and Max didn’t recognize his mom’s comment 😊
Day Seven, July 12 — the sixth day at camp. Denis Bogdanov.
Today started as usual: Misha woke up earlier than everyone else, and as for Max and Ivan Alekseevich, I don’t know, because I woke up after them. Those who wanted to sent their clothes to the laundry.
At 8:45, we went to exercises, where we found out that Misha and Dasha are in group 4, while we are in group 5B (me, Maxim, Ivan, Sofia, Katya).
After breakfast, our squad “Hustle-86” got on the bus because we were going on an excursion. Our acquaintances Bayan and Sofia were there too. 40 minutes on the road, and we were at the foot of Mount Olympus! There was a cable car station there. Not far from the building was a small pond with fish, but we didn’t go to them — we just admired the nature and breathed in the mountain air. For the first time in all these days, I felt like taking photos.
After waiting in line for 15 minutes, we started going up, glad that we came on Tuesday and not on the weekend. There were 25 people in the cabin, and the adults didn’t really let the children enjoy the views.
Dasha was very scared, especially when we passed the support pillars and it felt like we were falling, but she bravely held on, and we held on together with her. At those moments, many of us were scared! At the top of the mountain, we agreed to meet at a certain time. From the mountain, there was a great view of other mountains.
It seems to me that this is not the highest mountain in Turkey — 2,365 meters. Need to check. In the distance, huge mountains could be seen! The Turks believe that the ancient Greek gods lived here (and where are they now?): at the bottom, near the cable car boarding area, there is a model of the mountain with Zeus, Poseidon, and Pegasus, and at the top, there are also two large statues. I think the Olympian gods are still from Greece. There was a Wi-Fi network on the mountain — I even managed to call my mom and pointed out to Elena that she could use the internet.
Dasha was scared throughout the entire trip — she held Maxim’s hand and walked with him everywhere. Later, Dasha and Misha had a snack at a cafe, and Misha treated Dasha to macarons to cheer her up. In one of the stalls, they sold very tasty ice cream — I had two scoops. Dasha and I went to a souvenir shop and bought gifts for our parents. On the way back, Dasha felt a bit carsick, but everything went without incident: Ivan Alekseevich’s candy and a motion sickness pill helped. Katya also admitted that she was more afraid of the winding mountain road than even the ascent itself, but she endured it.
Misha and Maxim slept on Ivan Alekseevich’s shoulders. We were half an hour late for lunch, but we were fed and sent to English class. Dasha and Misha were with us because they had missed their English lesson. Michelle, our teacher, asked us quiz questions that we had already solved before, so it was easier for Katya to answer, but now we had to answer quickly — within 30 seconds — and Ivan sometimes translated for us.
Before the snack break, we were thinking about our performance, because today all squads had to introduce themselves and put on a show. Later, everyone went to the pool — only me, Misha, Elena, and Maxim swam. The other kids played near the pool, under the canopy. Misha learned to dive perfectly like a cannonball and not sink underwater.
After dinner, we went on stage to perform our act. It seemed to turn out pretty well. We clapped the loudest. After that, we wanted to rest, but soon the disco ruined our plans. Then we had our reflection session. Everyone noted Dasha’s bravery, and Dasha thanked everyone for their support. Misha and I figured out whose bed was less messy and whether it was worth taking other people’s things, especially candy. It’s not worth it.
I think the day went well — I enjoyed the trip and the Turkish ice cream.
DAY EIGHT, July 13 (7th day at camp). Daria Berseneva
I want to start today’s entry with a description of yesterday evening 😊. My phone wasn’t working. The neighbors next door were playing music. That gave me an idea. Before going to sleep, I sang the song “Katyusha” to Katyusha 😄. Katyusha was very pleased 😊. Then we went to sleep 😴, and this morning I noticed the disappearance of Ekaterina Ivanovna 😱. I was afraid that our noisy Azerbaijanis had stolen my Katya 😂😂😂. But it turned out that Katya had just gone to wash up, and I realized I shouldn’t be afraid for Katya 😅.
Then we got up and went to exercises 🏃♀️🏃♂️. I just sat there 😅 because I’m a dumpling (well, you remember). Maxim tried to get me up, but I won. The child came to rest, and they drag him to exercises in the morning!!! After exercises 🏋️♀️🏋️♂️ we went to eat. When we all finished eating, as always, we waited for Ivan Alekseevich 😁, because we come and leave the dining hall together. Unless, of course, someone overeats on sweets and runs off to eat coal. Then we went to the sea 🌊. I went into the sea in my clothes, and it was fun 😄. Then everyone went to the store, but I stayed because I was drying off. And that was not fun 🙁.
After lunch, we all went to English class 📚. When Mikhail and I finished English, we had free time ⏰ to walk around or lie down in the room. And Sofia, Maxim, Denis, Katya, and Ivan started math class (I sympathize with you 😢). I think math is hell, and Denis said in the evening that math was his favorite part of the day. Maxim forgot all the numbers and was upset about it. Sofia gave us advice again: study everything on time so you don’t fail your exams. When their math finally ended, it turned out that Mikhail needed to see a dentist 🦷. After the snack, when Mikhail and Elena went to the dentist 😁, Maxim was left in charge. We had to choose: pool or active games. We decided to go nowhere 😅 and just stayed in the room 😊.
Then Elena and Mikhail returned, and we went to dinner, but we didn’t have to wait for Ivan Alekseevich 😄 because after dinner we went to the store 🛍️🛒. As we walked back to camp, it started getting dark, the lamps lit up, and Sofia and Katya said it was atmospheric and we should take photos, especially since the makeup was well done. But we got carried away with conversations and forgot. Then we went to our session 📝, where we read parents’ messages, guessed who wrote them, and gave each other compliments. Katya and one of the boys thanked their parents for organizing everything, paying for it, and sending us here. Well, that’s all, 😴 time to sleep 💤.
Day Nine, July 14 (eighth day at camp). Ivan Pustovalov.
I woke up, washed up. I was feeling better. Today, I even planned to swim in the sea, but I limited myself to a walk. While I was sitting in the shade at a café along the path to the sea, everyone gathered back together. I panicked and rushed to look for my forgotten T-shirt, but noticed that the guys were waiting for me, and the T-shirt was in Elena’s hands (Phew!). When I was sitting on my bed, Elena opened the door. She said: “Quick, go to exercises.” I was against it because of the pointlessness of it.
During the day, we needed to prepare for a performance where we had to tell jokes. Our parents helped us. Our new acquaintances — the 6th squad — clapped the loudest and supported us. We hope it was sincere. We also needed to prepare a video about our squad. I came up with a great idea — we took photos. Now we need to edit it. I’m working on it.
After dinner, we made a collective decision to go to the store and take a walk. Near the camp, there are two playgrounds: a sports one and a children’s one, where we wanted to stay a bit longer. It was fun! Until we noticed that Elena was gone. Panic ensued!!!! But Misha saw her sitting on a bench a little further away, next to some Turkish grandfather, watching us. (Sigh of relief!)
Misha learned a lesson about money planning: you need to prepare for purchases — or, well, buy several pairs at once. The headphones he bought at the supermarket lasted him very little time.
Dasha didn’t feed the dog near the store this time. Maybe that’s what made her think about the meaning of life?! She remained sad and thoughtful for the rest of the evening.
And how was your day?
Day Ten, July 15 (ninth day at camp). Katya Borisova.
Today wasn’t like the usual days, because after exercises and breakfast, we went to English class. I thought it would be better to just get through it and rest for the rest of the day, but actually, the lesson wasn’t painful at all 😄 — it was fun, we laughed a lot, and most importantly, the teacher understands us, and the lessons are in a game format. At the start of the lesson, we made short words from long ones, and at the end, we had to come up with an app. It was really funny! We came up with a dating app for… fishermen! Even though it’s the strangest idea, it was definitely memorable for everyone.
After the lesson, we went to the sea. Time passed quickly as always, because we’re always busy with something — for example, today we played Durak (Fool) after swimming. Misha and Elena were in the water the whole time. Misha set a record today: an hour and a half in the sea and three hours in the pool!
(As we found out during our local reflection session, many people felt uncomfortable on the bus, because there were several squads and it was very stuffy. We had to sit three or four people on two seats, but since I was by the window, it didn’t bother me much. The counselors explained that they didn’t want to leave us in the sun longer while waiting for another bus, but promised it wouldn’t happen again.)
After lunch, we had scheduled time for squad activities, but we decided to rest a bit and went to our rooms. I slept for about an hour — just what I needed after such eventful days, even in the almost-last days.
In the evening, we went swimming in the pool, where we played and had fun! 😊
After dinner, Sofia and I watched K-pop dances and looked through a magazine with posters of different groups — it was very engaging, and surprisingly, I really became interested in Korean culture 😊
The day ended with our reflection session, where we usually share vivid impressions/events/compliments and also guess parents’ messages (that’s my favorite part). Our reflection session (local candle) is always very atmospheric and cozy, especially compared to the camp-wide candle we attended today 😊
Day Eleven, July 16 (tenth day at camp). Sofia Maslennikova.
Today is a day off — Saturday. We woke up a little earlier to get ready for an excursion to the old city of Kaleiçi (that’s the name of the district in Antalya; the name literally means “inside the fortress”).
After breakfast, we headed to the bus — the ride was very short, about 15 minutes. We walked through the city streets, bought ice cream, took photos of each other, and then went to a cafe to order food and drinks. I ordered iced coffee — it turned out very tasty and reasonably priced compared to Surgut. While our drinks and food were being prepared, I, Misha, Denis, Katya, and Max played cards. Dasha, Elena, and Aisylu — a girl from Kazakhstan who has been at the camp since June 20 and will stay until August 8 — were chatting about something. The boys were having lively conversations with the counselor Misha (also known as Mikael Volker) and kids from another squad.
After leaving the old city, we headed to the shopping center. It wasn’t far, but it was right in the middle of the day under the scorching sun, so it was terribly hot — but inside the mall, it was nice and cool. Here we split into groups and went shopping, agreeing on a meeting time and place. Katya, Misha, Denis, and I went together. I was glad (and Katya was too) that we could visit mass-market stores that are closed in Russia.
Meanwhile, Ivan Alekseevich was running around the stores with counselor Misha, while Max was upset with himself for not buying anything. It’s a pity we were only given 2 hours to walk around — for a huge five-story (??) shopping center, that’s very little.
Returning to camp, our first stop was the snack. Then we had free time: some went swimming in the pool, some just rested in the room or talked with friends. Katya and I spent most of the time at the boys’ room, talking about everything under the sun. Also, in our best tradition, we played cards (to be honest, I can no longer imagine camp without playing cards).
After dinner, we went out for a short walk to the playground — just to relax and unwind.
In the evening, the camp held another general “candle” gathering, but we had our own. Today’s conversation felt especially warm and cozy to me — I suddenly realized that very soon we would be leaving for our hometown, and there would be no more gatherings around the “campfire.”
During reflection, we discussed each other’s positive qualities. First, we thanked (I hope you felt it!) Irina Vladimirovna (Max’s mom) and Irina Valeryevna (Katya’s mom) for also sharing their diary pages with us! Everyone got really excited after the mention of Katya’s video, but Katya was SO scared that we would see it that Elena didn’t give in to requests to show it, and instead suggested that we share OUR observations about each other’s talents and good qualities. It was nice to hear kind words directed at me, just as I enjoyed openly speaking about others’ strengths.
This day turned out to be one of the brightest for me during the entire session — I will definitely remember it for a long time.
P.S. To those who want to feel the true spirit of adventure and immerse themselves in a full-fledged vacation — you definitely belong with us. The next educational expedition will take place August 15–20 through the cities of Russia’s “Golden Ring.” For details, click here and we will call you back. Or go to the chat and we’ll tell you personally. Phone number: 8 (3462) 75-82-27.
“We would recommend the Olympos Camp for summer vacations for children.”
Upon arrival, it was lonely, there was a lack of communication, but people came up to introduce themselves, and shared lessons and activities brought us closer. These allowed us to open up and show our talents.
Of course, we enjoyed the daily trips to the sea and the opportunity to swim in the pool.
It’s also great that at camp, it’s easy to start communicating with peers, as well as people older and younger. It’s wonderful that the children are encouraged to become friends. At the same time, we felt comfortable because we had our own small group with a teacher.
It was convenient and at the same time not so convenient that there is a single daily routine for the entire session (excluding weekends).
When the Azerbaijanis arrived, we realized we would have liked to have non-cardboard walls in the room, because you can hear absolutely everything happening with the neighbors.
On the positive side, we would like to highlight the young counselors. It’s easy to find common ground with them, become friends, and ask for help.
We liked the English teachers — they find an approach to the children and include everyone in the lesson. We would really like to thank them.
We would also like to note the non-school format of the lessons — playful, not stressful or burdensome. The food in the dining hall is good — no one (in our session) got food poisoning, there are no hairs or cockroaches in the food. The pastries are fresh. We would especially like to thank Muhammad for helping with currency exchange and for organizing trips and comfortable transportation.
Thanks also to the head teacher Tatyana Anatolyevna for organizing a convenient schedule for us.
Thanks to the drivers and service staff — the rooms are cleaned daily, bed linen is changed.
The next expedition is scheduled for August 15–20, traveling through the cities of the Golden Ring. The application deadline is approaching — be sure to take advantage of our special offer! For details, click here and we will call you back. Or go to the chat and we’ll tell you personally. Phone number: 8 (3462) 75-82-27.
